PEARSON, Neil

Obelisk: A History Of Jack Kahane And The Obelisk Press

Liverpool: Liverpool University Press, 2007

Large 8vo, pp. 494. Original black boards, lettered in gilt on spine. A fine copy in dustwrapper. 32 pp. colour illustrations.

First edition. A history of Jack Kahane's Paris-based Obelisk Press, which in the 1930s published the early work of Henry Miller, Lawrence Durrell and Anaos Nin, as well as work previously banned in Britain and the United States. As well as a history of the Press the book contains a full bibliography of its output, and profiles of all the authors it published in its ten-year existence. Probably the funniest historical bibliography you'll read this year.
