'This is one of a number of bulky volumes which I published in response to those slighting reviewers who used to refer to my books as 'slim little volumes'. Unfortunately collectors of private press books don't necessarily want a very fat, heavy one. [...] The visual graphic and typographic fun is lost in a book of 350 pages like Jurgen. But externally it has pleasing proportions, and I particularly liked the specials, with John Buckland Wright's fantastic designs blocked in gold in the purple panels. [...] It was just what I wanted for this fond, lush, fantastic tale.'
(Christopher Sandford, proprietor of the Golden Cockerel Press between 1933 and 1959, quoted in Cock-A-Hoop (Private Libraries Association, 1976)).

Very scarce in the signed and morocco-bound limitation.
