LUCY FLEMING'S WORKING SCRIPT, WITH A PENCILLED NOTE IN HER HAND TO TITLE PAGE.

Fresh from the seismic successes of Culloden (1964) and The War Game (1966), director Peter Watkins' Privilege (1967) sees a pop star elevated to the role of messiah by dark political forces to divert public attention away from the excesses of an anti-democratic government. Starring the singer Paul Jones and the model Jean Shrimpton, the film's crusading zeal is stymied by the absence of anyone who can act at the top of the cast, but some sequences still pack a powerful counter-cultural punch, and the place of Privilege in the anti-Establishment canon of the 1960s has long been secured.

Lucy Fleming made her professional debut in 1965 as an understudy in the Royal Court Theatre's revolutionary production of Edward Bond's Saved. IMDB does not list Privilege among Fleming's credits, but the call sheet laid in to this script, dated 11 September 1966, lists her as one of 'ALVIN'S DOLLIES' and requires her presence at 25 St. James's Street, London, at 7.30am that day. (A pencilled note to the script's title page, in Fleming's hand, confirms the location.)
