1p. airmail letter. Original faint creasing from postage, ink smudging to two words, sustained by Huxley folding the letter before the ink was dry.

ALS FROM ALDOUS HUXLEY DATED 7 FEBRUARY 1960 TO the erotica historian, collector and anti-censorship crusader Gershon Legman [1917-1999].

Optimistically (but apparently successfully) addressed simply to 'Monsieur G. Legman Cagnes-sur-Mer (AM) France,', Huxley's letter bears his Deronda Drive Los Angeles address (the house was destroyed the following year in a brush fire). Written in response to an enquiry from Legman, it reads:

'Dear Mr. Legman,
From what you say in your letter I think you must be referring to an essay on Crébillon the Younger, published originally as a preface to a translation (bad) by Oscar Wilde's son, Vyvyan Holland, & reprinted in a volume called The Olive Tree. I have just re-read the essay, & find it quite good and to the point. I hope you may do the same. Yours sincerely, Aldous Huxley'.
