Barry Hines wrote A Kestrel for a Knave (Michael Joseph, 1968), filmed by Ken Loach as Kes in 1969 -- a British cinema classic. In 1980 Loach filmed The Gamekeeper for Associated Television, starring Phil Askham, and from a screenplay co-written with Hines.
