Fifth edition. No. 4 of 100 copies, one of four on Chine; there were an additional two copies on peau vélin. GERSHON LEGMAN'S COPY, WITH HIS OWNERSHIP INSCRIPTION TO (LATER) ENDPAPER: '1959 G. Legman* *who, not being a French "bibliophile", does not rubber-stamp his name on title-pages of fine books!'. First published by Denys Janot, 'imprimeur du Roy', in Paris in 1544. New bibliographical introduction to this edition by Paul Lacroix (pseudonym of the journalist and bibliophile P.L. Jacob [1806- 1884]).
From the library of the Franch bibliophile Gustave Mouravit [1840 - 1920], whose stamped monogram appears on the title page and again on p.55 -- which explain Legman's withering ownership inscription to the later endpaper. Mouravit's library was dispersed by auction in Paris in 1938.
