1p. ALS FROM MICHAEL REDGRAVE TO LEO McKERN

Redgrave and McKern worked together on Redgrave's 1950 Hamletfor the Old Vic, which opened at the New Theatre in London on 2 February (McKern played Guildenstern.) Later that year McKern opened as Feste in the Old Vic's production of Twelfth Night. Redgrave sent this letter -- dated 14 November, the play's first night -- to the theatre Stage Door, by way of a first night card. It reads:

'My Dear Leo, Have a wonderful first night and a great season! I should be green with envy at being on the wrong side of the apron if it were not that I know I shall be purple with pride of you. Yours, Michael'.
