RICHARDSON, Dorothy

ALS to Clifford Bax

Padstow: N.p., 1922

1p. ALS on lined paper.

ALS FROM DOROTHY RICHARDSON TO CLIFFORD BAX, DECEMBER 1922.

In 1922 Dorothy Richardson's husband, the artist Alan Odle, had illustrated an edition of Voltaire's Candide, published by George Routledge. Unhappy with the negligible splash this event had made Richardson wrote an appreciation herself, and offered it to Clifford Bax for publication in his quarterly magazine The Golden Hind, which was a regular publisher of Odle's illustrations: 'I hope you may find room for it in the January number [...] If this is impossible please speedily return my m.s. so that I may send it elsewhere. But I hope you will allow it to accompany your reproductions of Alan Odle's work.' (Bax did not publish the piece.)
